Day three

So this morning my dad, mom, Mike and I went and looked at a few places to have a wedding reception. We visited three places and found one that we are pretty confident about. We reserved the date and talked about prices but nothing is set in stone. I won't reveal it yet just because we haven't made a final decision, but even if things change I am gaining more confidence that everything will work out just like my mom and dad said.

We also visited another church that we are considering for the ceremony and they were also closed until the new year. HOW CAN A CHURCH JUST CLOSE!! I don't understand that part, but I guess we will be waiting until the fourth to reserve the church.

Even though it has only been four days since Michael proposed and we haven't made any definite plans, I feel like we are making good progress on getting things done.

If I can finish the guest list this week, I will be a happy bride-to-be!

Every now and then I will catch a glimpse of the amazing ring on my finger and realize that yes, this is really happening. Sometimes I still can't believe it. After being Michael's girlfriend for almost six years, it's hard to imagine myself being his fiance or even his wife! Hopefully this will begin to feel more normal soon :-)

Every day I am thankful for the fact that the man I am planning this wedding with loves me no matter what and has decided to stand by me forever. Praise God!

Melt down on day 2 of planning

This is not a good sign

Yesterday started out ok. Mike and I were going to drive over to the church and reserve it for August 15th, but when we got there we discovered that they were closed until the 3rd for new years. So, then we went to return a couple of Christmas gifts and get lunch. While at lunch, Mike contacted the florist that he knows and we are going to set up a consult for sometime next week. So far this is the only progress we have made on planning.

Later that evening, as I was researching places to hold the reception I had a serious melt down. I won't go very specifically into the reasons because it's slightly embarrassing. I just wanted everything to be perfect, but I had no clue what I was doing. After a little guidance and reassurance from my parents and a little budgeting, I calmed down.

So, day two didn't go so well

Day one of wedding planning

So today, Michael and I sat down with my mom and dad to begin planning an August wedding. The very first thing we did was had my dad pray for an enjoyable and stress free time while we plan and get ready to be married. Then my mom got her big box of wedding stuff out of the garage that she had saved from planning my oldest sister's wedding. Michael and I began writing down every person we could think of that we would want to invite to the wedding and this in itself was a huge task!

We were thinking that it would be so nice to get married on a yacht out of Newport, but after researching prices and amount of people that a boat will hold it started to seem a little impractical. It looks like we will be planning a church wedding which is exciting.

my sisters all made an agreement when my oldest sister got married about how we would work out the maid of honor situation without anyone's feelings getting hurt. We decided that the maid of honor would always be the sister right below the person getting married. This means that my maid of honor is my little sister Bradleigh! We already gave her a book about everything she needs to know and she seems excited and a little nervous. It's a good thing she has my mom and three older sisters to help her out.

Even today, on our first day of wedding planning, I began to feel the stress and pressure of planning the biggest event of our lives. This will be no easy task, but I can't wait to see the end result. Michael is being extremely supportive and positive and is really helping me to stay positive through out all of this.

Tomorrow we will go talk to a couple of churches in the area and hopefully nail down the venue for the ceremony and reception. I also want to try and call the pastor, the photographer, and the florist since these people are all family friends.

Now, I need to go clean my room :-)

He Proposed!

Michael had made plans with his friend Jesse and Jesse's girlfriend Lauren to go ice skating. We headed down to Prushing Square in Los Angeles where they had an outdoor ice skating rink set up. When we got there, we were informed that they were all sold out for the night and that we would not be able to skate. We stood around for a few minutes trying to think of something else we could do when Jesse's girlfriend suggested we go to the Griffith Park Observatory. Michael and I had never been there so we got back in the car and headed over there. It was around 9pm at this point. When we got there we went outside and began climbing up the stairs to the top of the building. Jesse and his girlfriend were off looking at something else and Michael and I were just looking out at a spectacular view of Los Angeles. I could tell that Michael's heart was racing, but he told me it was just because he was cold. Then he said "wouldn't this be a great place to propose?" I immediately told him to shut up because I figured he was joking and I wasn't amused. When I turned to face him, he was on one knee holding a ring out. He asked me to marry him and I dropped to my knees with him and hugged him as tight as I could and started to cry. I couldn't believe what had just happened. He pulled me up to my feet and put the ring on my finger and I was still in shock. Then Jesse and Lauren came back over and congratulated us and took a couple of pictures. Then we got back in the car because Michael had made dinner reservations at BJ's. When we got to the restaurant I walked inside and saw both of our families waiting for us. It was an awesome surprise and I started crying again and showing everyone my ring. I told everyone how he proposed and there was lots of hugging. I still can't believe that in just a few short months, I will be Mrs. Michael Cameron!
